Eyes in the Skies?

Before we get to pictures #2 and #3, click on picture #1 to enlarge - and see another mystery foggy shape that showed up last night. (The bright upper left corner is a close-up shot of the underside of a deer's neck.)

Now enlarge the next two pics below. I don't know if these red 'eyes' are reflections off something or just what the heck they are, but I can say for sure that they're not the eyes of another deer. The land falls off downhill behind the deer in these pictures, so those red 'eyes' are about 15' off the ground.

Stomp!

I know this looks like the buck is posing for the camera, but I think it's probably just a freeze-frame of him doing the classic Snort and Stomp.

In a Fog

I've never quite understood these occasional photos that appear to show something that looks more like smoke than fog. I posted another like this on 8/31/08 (see archives).

Another CreekWalker

The turkeys that were in the creek last week haven't returned yet, but there always seems to be something or the other taking a stroll down there.

No Doe was Harmed while Shooting these Pictures

Both photos are of the same doe, taken four minutes apart. The missing leg was not photoshopped away nor shot off. It is simply a quirk that appears sometimes when my trail cams snap a creature in motion. For another example, see my Sept. 30, 2008 entry.

One of those Strange Ones

It's odd how only one of the raccoons noticed the weird things flying around them.

Curiosity Camera

This cam is sitting on the ground right now, so when this buck lowered his head to get a look at it, he unknowingly framed himself for a nice photo

Ready for the Rut?

These two photos were snapped just one minute apart. Perhaps some preliminary courting going on?

CreekWalkers

After their stroll through the higher ground, the turkeys moved downhill for a walk along the (mostly-dried-up) creek. 100% chance of rain this weekend!

A Gaggle of Gobblers

The correct term is 'flock' - but I like this title better. Tomorrow you'll see where these turkeys went 3 hours later.

Walk On By

You don't get to see much of this deer, as it nearly stepped on my camera.

Best Buck of the Weekend

The drought continues, as does the lack of activity around my trail cams. This is one of only two bucks whose photos were snapped this weekend.

My Photos, Day 3

I'll resume posting trail cam photos tomorrow afternoon.

My Photos, Day 1

I'm on the road and away from my trail cams for the weekend, so I'm posting pictures that I took with my digital camera for a couple of days. Hopefully my trail cams will be filled with great new photos when I return.

Suzanne Somers Seal of Approval

Is it just me, or has this squirrel been working out on a ThighMaster?

Meet "Slash"

I don't name most of the deer I see, but this one was too obvious. (As always, click photo to enlarge.)

What a Difference a Week Makes

This is the same water hole where the heron showed up last week. Now about half the water has dried up and thousands of leaves have fallen.

Lucky to be Young and Small

This deer was lucky to be so small. That fluorescent orange in the center of the picture is a bow hunter!

Return of the 'Possum

The opossum returned the the other night, and this is a little better picture that the last one I posted. Deer photos are rare right now, as the drought appears to have caused them to spend their days around the few remaining water holes in the creek. (Looks like I need to reset the date on this camera.)

Never Had Six

I have a number of different pictures of five deer at once, but have never had six.

Never Had Three

In all the hundreds of pictures from my trail cams, I've never had a shot with three different kinds of animals in the same photo; I've had lots with two.

I Believe in Santa

Having a trail camera is sort of like having a daily Secret Santa. Some days the gifts are plain old things like socks and underwear - but every once in a while you get a present that nearly takes your breath away when you first open it.

Thirst Quencher

A trip to the mineral lick can leave you with a very dry throat!

Landing on Runway 3....We Have Liftoff!

I don't get bird-in-flight photos very often, especially ones that are pretty much in focus; these are not too bad.

Blue Bathing Bird

I'm not sure what kind of bird this is, but I'm sure it wouldn't be happy to know I had a camera spying on it while it was taking a bath!

Mythological Creature?

Move that single antler a bit more to the left, and this would be a unicorn. (Click photo to enlarge.)

What's Special to Me...

There's nothing particularly interesting about this photo, but what's special to me is that it is my very first daytime picture of a deer from a trail camera.

Won't Win the Forest Cutie Contest

Gotta feel sorry for the opossum. You have Thumper the Rabbit, Bambi the Deer, Rocky the Squirrel, Wiley Coyote - but I cannot think of a cute 'possum cartoon character.

10

The first and only picture I've had of this 10-pointer in about two weeks. The water holes in the creek near this camera have completely dried up; we need rain!
