180 Degree Spin Around

All I can figure is that this buck wanted to make sure we saw his good side.

Cornamenta Resembles a Canasta

The first and last words of the title are Spanish. We call this buck Mr. Basket Rack.

But Even One Camera...

...is enough to capture day and night photos of this buck.

And Then There Was One

Another of my cameras finally bit the dust last week, so I'm down to one camera until after Christmas. Bear with me - I'll try to keep things interesting, but am having to do so with 2/3 fewer photos to select from for the time being.

A Year Ago Today...

...it was a sunny day with blue skies...wouldn't that be nice right now!

Attention Poachers!

The 12/19/08 issue of THE OHIO OUTDOOR NEWS has an interesting piece about a guy in Vinton County who was arrested after his picture showed up on a landowner's trail cam. The camera captured the image of the hunter dragging a trophy-sized buck down the landowner's driveway without permission to be there - case closed! Hunter fined, deer meat donated to a local food pantry.

Video Test, Part 2

Yesterday's test seemed to go well, so I've decided to try one more. One thing you might want to know; cameras like mine (with flash for nighttime pictures) cannot take video after dark. Mine automatically switches to flash-photo mode when there is not enough light to shoot video. Many upscale models can take video after dark.

I've Never Posted Video Before...

...so I'd like some feedback. Do you find a 10-second clip interesting? Did it take long to download/view? Did you have any other problems viewing the video? Is the quality of the video image acceptable? Please use the comments section in this posting and let me know what you think. (Note - there is no sound, just video)

Face UP This Time

Last week I mentioned finding one of my cameras face down in the snow. Yesterday I found one face UP, and discovered that it had snapped a picture of the offender.

They Claim Turkeys Are Dumb...

...but this small flock cleaned up the corn at one of my feeding spots and made it over to the second spot in just over a half hour. The first picture was snapped about 20 minutes after I did my rounds, so they must have been lurking in the area.

I Could Explain Yesterday's Photo...

...as it was simply a matter of the flash not going off when it needed to. This photo, however, is another matter. I have NEVER had a nighttime shot when nothing in the background was illuminated. I have no idea what caused this spotlight effect.

Any thoughts?

Click on This Pic

When I first saw this picture, I almost deleted it, as it was clear that the flash should have fired but didn't. After seeing a full-screen version, I realized that this particular image/effect would be almost impossible for a photographer to capture. It's a dark, yet in my mind, artistic photo.

The Return of Long Tines

It amazes me how many clashes-of-the-heads my cam has captured at this same general location. (I guess the other news is that these two both survived gun season!)

Frozen Warnings

Something has alerted this buck early on a cold morning.

Nothing Special

Yesterday I found one camera with dead batteries and the other face down in the snow, so I won't have any snow-and-animal pictures to post until tomorrow morning. This will have to do for now.

Rubbing Salt in a Wound

A friend of mine was hunting this spot, this day, until just before 5pm, and had seen nothing. Ouch!

A Busy Intersection

It is rare for my cams to catch deer walking by instead of standing in place, and even more rare for the shot to include deer traveling in two different directions.

From the Request Line

A friend asked me to try to post more pictures that showed two different species. I like those too, but haven't had too many lately. Here's a doe that looks a bit spooked from realizing that a 'possum has walked up to feed. (It will help to click on the photo to enlarge it.)

AFTERNOON UPDATE: Sometime this morning, my blog got it's 1000th hit since it began! That will make my cold walk in the woods this afternoon a much more pleasant one.

Feeling Blue?

This is one bird I prefer to see in the woods rather than at my bird feeders, where they fling and waste a lot of feed.

This is an Older Photo...

...but it still looks pretty darn good! (One of my cameras died last week and another no longer has a flash for nighttime pictures, so I doubt I'll be getting as many new photos every day for a while. I'll watch after-Christmas sales for a new camera.)

OSPA Keeps Me Safe

The Hunter Orange hat I got from the Ohio State Prospectors Association helps me feel safe in the woods each day. Make sure you wear some orange - especially this week!

The Buck Stops Here

This one, however, has a rack that looks more like a stick sticking out of his forehead.
