Corn Eating Contest

The blue jays seemed to be bored the other day, and decided to drop by the camera to show how much corn they could eat. The first two are clearly amateurs, and tied for 3rd place.

Here's a look at the jay who finished in 2nd place.

Ohio Deer Gun Season

Just a reminder: Ohio Deer Gun Season begins today and runs through December 4th. Please be safe in the woods or stay out of them for the next week!

...when I can stand in my living room and take photos like these! The birds came by around 11am this morning.

Just One Visitor

The camera caught this young buck stopping by last night.

Haven't Seen Ms. Hopper for Two Years...

...but the way both of these photos show a turkey with the same foot held off the ground, I have to wonder if she's returned.

It would be wonderful and amazing if it turns out to be her!

Mixed Bag of Visitors

2 days of rain kept me away from the cameras for a couple of days, so a bit of catching up to do today. Here is a look at a few of the critters that stopped by the lower camera spot this week - including the first visit by a small flock of wild turkeys!

First up, a blue jay that appears to be crowing like a rooster.

It's great to see that some turkeys have returned!

 Middle-of-the-afternoon bucks have been rare at this location.

 A 22 degree morning brings icy frost earlier today.

Swinging in the Rain

I don't like to open the trail camera cases in the rain, so I shot this short video out my living room window.

Two-Toned Squirrel

I don't think I've ever seen a squirrel with such a distinct color difference between its head and body. You'll see this better if you click on the photo to enlarge it.

I've had few photos of deer during the day recently, so these were a surprise.

It looks like Matador was up and moving just before sunrise.

I haven't been to this cam in a few days, but it seems I didn't miss much. This young deer with its tongue sticking out just got a taste of the mineral lick.

First time I've seen this little buck. Think I'll call him Matador.
