It Snowed Yesterday...
...and it looks like the snow's arrival cooled down some hot tempers - because just 45 minutes earlier...
Another cool rut scene! What are using to pull the deer in to the camera, scent or feed? They probably wore each other out butting heads between the shots. lol
There are two apple trees real close to where this camera sits, and I discovered a couple years ago that there were buck-fights (usually at night) near those trees during the rut. Now, there's also a mineral lick in the area - but I'd almost swear that the use of scents drives the bucks away for a few days. A hunting friend used some last week - and I didn't get another buck on camera until we got the all-day rain.
I have to agree, I never had much luck with scents. I think the ads are a lot of hype too. I had better luck using rattlin' horns. Once I was rattling and a large buck charged up the point toward me. I guess he thought other bucks were in his territory trying to steal his does. It was hilarious! The hair was standing up on his back like when a dog's does when they're ready to fight. I was laughing so hard that I dropped my arrow.
