And Now I Know

Every time I walk to the hanging feeder on top of the hill, I pass a tree with a big hole in it and toss a handfull of corn into the hollow of the tree. I've assumed that squirrels take the corn; it's always gone the next day...and now I know.

The first visitor arrived after dark. I'm not certain what it is, but its size tells me that the new camera is triggered by even the smallest creatures.

Next up - simply a cool shot of a passing deer.

Once the sun comes up, the squirrels arrive:

Finally, a variety of birds arrive to clean up the crumbs:

  1. In the first photo, it's a flying squirrel. They come out at night and on some overcast days.
Put a dollop of peanut butter on the tree. they'll love it.

    1. Thanks! Knowing that reminds me of a very special memory of when I was a kid and my Dad showed us flying squirrels in the daytime by shaking certain rotting-but-still-standing trees. I absolutely WILL take them some peanut butter!
