The Path of Least Resistance
I decided not to open the trail cams today due to the rain. (You have to open the case to retrieve the memory card.) Hopefully that means I'll have lots of photos to pick from tomorrow.
I'm also going to start work on this year's addition to the hiking path in the woods tomorrow. With any luck (and a mild winter), I hope to be able to easily walk to this spot by Spring.
It's a scenic watering hole used by a lot of different wildlife, but right now getting there is a pretty tough walk.

A Look Back at One of my Favorites
I've dusted off the trail cameras and will be slowly bringing this blog back to life for another year of photos from the woods. Until I start getting some good new photos, I'm going to post some of my favorites from the past. First up, the day the great blue heron stopped by one of the favorite wildlife watering holes in the creek.

CreekWeek Update: Suddenly It Was Worth all the Aggravation!
At noon today I headed up the creek to retrieve the cameras and move them - only to have it almost immediately start raining on me. I grabbed all three cams and headed back to the house, almost laughing at how a very frustrating week was ending with me soaking wet and another plan foiled. After drying myself a bit, I found this - and all was well in the universe again!
(Looks like I need to reset the AM/PM indicator on the cam's clock...and the year!)

Sure Would Like to See This Out My Window Today...
...instead of the layers of snow and ice! Yesterday when I went back to the trail cams, there were huge limbs falling in the woods about once a minute, so I decided it was too dangerous to enter the woods to retrieve the memory cards. That's why you get a flashback photo today.

Just on the edge of the woods, though, I found Ms. Hopper, who also must have realized the woods were unsafe. She was in some brushy overgrowth between the woods and the clearing - and very happy to get some corn from me! She seems to have weathered the storm just fine; that's one Tough Turkey.

Great Heron. Not So Great Picture

Unfortunately, this Great Blue Heron arrived at the time of the morning when the sun directly hits this spot. It would have been a really nice picture an hour later.
