More Primping & Preening

Ms. Hopper decided to climb up on this old stump for some feather work. The series included 34 photos and spanned over 30 minutes.

  1. Ms. Hopper is a real trooper! I think it's great that she's learned to cope with her handicap. She's going to be a real inspiration as I learn to cope with mine. My hat goes off to you Ms. Hopper. :)

  2. Given that she made it through whatever caused the initial injury and survived the cold winter, I think she's adapted well to her situation. She relies on me less and less for corn, so it seems she's figured out how to find more of her own food.

The only thing that bugs me is that I have no pictures of her with the other turkeys. I wonder if the others shun her because of the injury? I'd prefer to think she's just being selfless and doesn't want to slow them down - but I actually don't like either explanation. There's no reason for her flock to shun her due to to one bad leg, nor for her to concern herself so much about being a burden to others.

  3. I doubt that the others are shunning her. I think it's because she can't keep up with them with her bad leg. Thier paths probably cross sometimes but not within the range of the camera.
